An interesting off-shoot of dimestore toy soldiers is the conversion of figures. Multiple talented individuals have taken old toy soldiers, modified them, and repainted them to create unique pieces. Some of my favorites have been done by Roger Dubois, Louis Steinberg, John Greene (Second Shot), and “Brit” Britton. In 2019, I was fortunate enough to have Roger create a special set for me depicting a WW 1 anesthetist administering anesthesia…something that was missing in available figures.
Dimestore Conversions Gallery
My collection includes a number of converted and “new” dimestore medical figures by several prominent hobbyists. One of my favorite artists is Roger Dubois who has created pieces for a number of nationalities by modifying original stretcher bearers, wounded, doctors, and nurses.
