Timpo

London and Scotland, 1945-1978

Timpo, founded in 1938 by Salomon Gawrylovitz, was a British toy company that started as a reseller of imported soldiers before producting its own in metal and later plastic. The company became famous in the 1950s and 1960s for its plastic Wild West and military figures, and the Swoppet range with interchangeable parts, before closing operations in 1978. Many of their early metal designs were created by well-known model artist Roy Selwyn Smith.

Timpo Gallery

The most well-known Timpo pieces come from the WW II U. S. American GI soldier line. This line included a stretcher team and wounded soldier with his arm in a sling. Of note, the Timpo figures were also produced in Argentina from the original molds in both metal and plastic under several names including Mambro. They also produced a plastic WW II German stretcher team that was sold by the set from a display box.
